Back to Back Shootout Wins for Pruitt

Story by Josh Reynolds

Stuart, IA (June 26) – Heat, heat and more heat seems to be the theme of the summer, and that applies to the racing as well at Stuart Speedway! Skylar Hunter, Clint Luellen, John Gill, Jake Murray, Ryan Grochala and Josh Pruitt took the wins on Stew Hansen Dodge Night at the Races.

The Heartland Micro Sprints were first up for features with Doug Sylvester and Ryan Mills on the front row. Skylar Hunter came through to lead lap one with Mills and Jayce Jenkins giving chase. Jenkins made it to second on lap four, but there was no catching Hunter on this night as he went on to take the win. Jenkins finished second with Mills third, Sylvester fourth and Ali Wood fifth. Jenkins was the heat race winner.

Thomas Egenberger and Chase Rudolf brought out the IMCA Northern SportMods next with Rudolf showing the way early. A rash of yellows slowed the field early, but Rudolf continued to hold the lead over Kody Havens and Clint Luellen. Luellen made it to second on lap seven, but Rudolf continued to look strong at the point. That all changed on lap ten as Rudolf’s engine let go on the front stretch. Luellen would take the green flag and not be challenged as he went on to take the win. Austin Luellen finished second with Havens third, Jerry Hinton fourth and after flipping over on lap four Adam Armstrong crossed in fifth place. Hinton and Clint Luellen were the heat race winners.

Curtis Miller and John Gill were the lone starters in the IMCA Sport Compacts with Miller leading the first four laps. Gill made his move in turn two on lap five and went on to take the win over Miller. Gill was also the heat race winner.

IMCA Modifieds came out next with Bob Daniels and Scott Bash on the front row. Daniels led early with Jeff James and Jake Murray close behind. Murray moved to second on lap five and began to stalk Daniels. Lap eleven was the magic lap for Murray as he passed Daniels for the lead. James made it to second three laps later, but Murray wouldn’t be seriously challenged and went on to the win. James finished second with Tim Ward third, Daniels fourth and Todd VanEaton fifth. Daniels and Josh Gilman were the heat race winners.

David Simpson and Gregg Anderson brought the IMCA Hobby Stocks out next with Simpson leading lap one. Korbin Nourse and Keith Burg took turns in second, but on lap four Ryan Grochala blew by to take the top spot. Grochala has been so close to getting his first-ever Hobby Stock win this season, and this would be his night as he went on to take the checkers! Buck Schafroth came home second with Nourse third, John Watson fourth and Jason Day fifth. Watson and Nourse were the heat race winners.

After Mike Harris, Terry Klocke, Josh Pruitt and Randy Killen won heat races and Adam Klocke picked up the B-Main win, Harris and Pruitt pulled the first two chips out of the bucket to lead the IMCA Stock Cars to the green flag for the Stew Hansen Dodge Stock Car Shootout! Pruitt held the top spot early over Harris and Damon Murty. Murty moved to second on lap five and set his sights on the lead, but a flat tire on lap ten ended his night and turned over second to Marcus Fagan. Fagan stayed zeroed in on Pruitt until the yellow flew on lap nineteen. The cars bunched up for the final restart of the night, and while everyone was doing the chasing, Pruitt set sail to take his second Shootout in a row! Terry Klocke finished second with Jay Schmidt third, Fagan fourth and Todd Inman fifth.

We’d like to thank all who came out to support the race track at our seventh event of the year. Next week will be the Fever Heat Classic. The IMCA Late Models will be in attendance for their lone appearance at Stuart in 2016. They will be racing for $1000 to win, and the Sport Compacts will be in search of a $250 payday! Both classes will be draw/redraw format and we will have the rest of our regular classes as well. See you then!
