Zrostlik Takes Fever Heat Classic

Story by Josh Reynolds

Stuart, IA (July 3) – Cool and crisp weather gave way to HOT racing on the night before our Nation’s Independence Day at Stuart Speedway! Brian Blessington, Jake Benischek, Jeff James, Buck Schafroth, Austin Luellen and Joe Zrostlik took home the hardware at the 1st annual Fever Heat Classic.

First up for features would be the IMCA Stock Cars with Bob Staiert and Mike Harris on the front row. Harris wouldn’t make it to the flagstand as the cars came together to take the green flag. Harris took the worst of the damage and would retire to the pits. Chris Pruitt led the first couple of laps once the green flag flew, and Derrick Rohe moved by on lap three to take the lead. Daniel Hilsabeck took over on lap seven and looked strong enough to win, but an expired engine on lap twelve changed that and handed the lead to Brian Blessington. Blessington would go on to take the win with Pruitt second, Ben Walding third, Josh Daniels fourth and Rohe fifth. Hilsabeck and Harris were the heat race winners.

With some extra money on the line, nineteen IMCA Sport Compacts took to the track next with James Peterson and Jake Benischek leading the field to green. Benischek led early over Alec Stapleton and Luke Benischek, and things started to look interesting as the cars entered lap traffic on lap ten. Benischek was up to the task and gapped the competition as he went on to take the caution free twenty lap event! Stapleton finished second with Luke Benischek third, Bill Whalen Jr fourth and Curtis Miller fifth. Whalen Jr, Benischek and Denny Berghahn were the heat race winners.

Scott Bash and Matt Webb brought the IMCA Modifieds to the track next with Webb leading the first couple of laps. Jake Murray took over with Jeff James close behind on lap three. James closed the gap, and got up beside Murray around half way through. The two came together a lap later with James spinning to the bottom of the track. James would resume at the front with Murray heading to the tail. James went on to take the win with Tim Ward second, Todd VanEaton third, Webb fourth and John Davis fifth. VanEaton and James were the heat race winners.

IMCA Hobby Stocks were up next with Gregg Anderson and Korbin Nourse on the front row. Nourse led early, but it didn’t take long for sixth starting Buck Schafroth to make his way to the lead. Once there, there was little challenging him as Schafroth powered to the win. Jamie Schirm finished second with John Watson third, Ryan Grochala fourth and Aaron Rudolph fifth. Anderson and Schirm were the heat race winners.

Twenty two IMCA SportMods made their way to SIS with Colton Nelson and Chase Rudolf leading the field to green. Nelson led early, but Austin Luellen made all the right moves and passed for the lead just before halfway. A rash of cautions slowed the field, but Luellen was not to be denied and went on to take the win. Rudolf finished second with Shawn Cooney third, Kody Havens fourth and Arie Schouten fifth. Rudolf, Nelson and Luellen were the heat race winners.

Last up for the night was the IMCA Late Models and the Fever Heat Classic. Charlie McKenna and Paul Nagle were the lucky ones to draw 1-2 for the feature, and it was McKenna leading early through some caution flags. Once the cautions were sorted out, Corey Zeitner set the pace with McKenna not far behind. Joe Zrostlik began to move forward around halfway, and just past the twentieth lap he passed Zeitner for the lead. Zrostlik would go on to take the win and the $1000 for the 30 lap inaugural event. Zeitner finished second with Jake Neal overcoming some early adversity to finish third, McKenna fourth and Paul Glendenning fifth. Nagle and Zrostlik were the heat race winners.

We’d like to thank all who came out to support the race track at our eighth event of the year. We are off next week, but on July 17 it will be Adair Lumber Night at the Races. We will have our 5 regular IMCA classes, and after a week off they will be ready to fly around the bullring! See you in two weeks!
